Frequently Asked Questions

+ What is art therapy?

Great question! Art Therapy is a therapeutic modality that explores incorporating the use of art and working through the creative process. This allows people to reach deeper levels of healing beyond talk therapy alone. Working with art can help empower individuals to express themselves without the use of words to facilitate healing.

+ Do I need to be an artist to do art therapy?

Not at all. There is no experience required as art therapy is about the process rather than the product of your creation. Exploring creatively is more about the feelings that you have during your journey rather than what the image looks like at the end.

+ What is Somatic Therapy?

Somatic therapy is a holistic approach to psychotherapy that taps into the mind-body connection. By tuning into physical sensations, Somatic Therapy can help process thoughts, feelings, and emotions that can turn up as stored stress, tension and trauma in the body.

Drawing from Somatic Experiencing® (SE™) and Mindfulness-Based Somatic Therapy techniques, I guide you in tuning into physical sensations and emotions. By gently navigating these sensations, you can release tension and foster a greater sense of ease and awareness in your body.

+ What should I wear for a somatic therapy session?

Clothing that is comfortable and allows for exploration of movement.

+ Are online sessions as effective as in-person sessions?

Absolutely. Online counselling offers us the ability to connect from anywhere and offers you more flexibility in scheduling. Sessions are offered using a secure online video platform called Jane App, which is compliant with healthcare privacy laws in Canada.

+ What can I expect in a counselling session?

Sessions are structured to be empowering and collaborative. For the first few sessions, we will be getting to know one another, building trust and exploring together.

Depending on your individual needs, at the beginning of a session, we will spend some time talking to each other to see what might be a good thing to explore during a session. Followed by brief mindfulness check-in to bring you into space. You always have the option to choose if one of these options feels right.

The sessions will follow a natural flow. Depending on your individual needs, we could explore through conversation, art, mindfulness or movement. Sessions will come to a natural close at the end of the 50 minutes.

+ Do you accept insurance?

Most extended health plans in BC cover the services of Registered Clinical Counsellors. Refer to your plan manual or call the insurer and they will be able to assist you.

If you have coverage, you will be required to pay me directly in full for your session, and then submit your receipt to your insurance company for reimbursement.

Your appointment time is reserved just for you! I require 24 hours notice for any cancellations.

A late cancellation or missed visit leaves a hole in my day that could have been filled by another client. Clients who provide less than 24 hours notice will be charged a fee of $50. If the appointment is missed entirely the full fee is charged.

+ COVID-19 Safety Guidelines

Please do not attend in-person counselling sessions if you have a cough, fever or have recently been sick. Please reschedule after you’ve been symptom-free for seven consecutive days. Cancellation fees are waived due to the sudden onset of illness.

As Soul Flow Therapy is home in a fitness facility, and therefore the COVID-19 strategy was informed by public health guidelines as required by the office of the BC Provincial Health Officer (BC PHO). We acknowledge that this situation is ever-evolving and are committed to updating this strategy as required.
